• Narendra Modi will almost certainly win a third term as India’s prime minister when the country’s election comes to a conclusion in six weeks’ time. One of the things that makes Mr.Modi so popular is a sense among ordinary voters and elites that he is bringing India prosperity: India, after all, is the world’s fastest-growing major economy and by 2027 it is forecast to become the third-largest. The optimism is well-deserved. Yet as our cover leader this week argues, sustaining this will require deep reform.
